As of May 19, 2026, the REDCap Support Team has made updates to both the Project Creation and Move to Production Request processes. Specifically, updates have been made to the forms required to complete these actions. These updates reflect common user feedback and are designed to reduce confusion and improve request accuracy. These changes are intended to streamline requests and better align with the current acceptable use cases of CU Anschutz REDCap.
This article outlines the primary modifications to these processes and includes a Quick Summary section for a high-level overview of how these changes will impact project creation and moving your project to production. The Changes to the Project Creation Form and Changes to the Move to Production Request Form sections provide more in-depth summaries of the modifications made.

Quick Summary
In short, the updates to both the Project Creation Form and the Move to Production Request Form include:
- Visual enhancements to improve readability and align with CU Anschutz branding
- Consolidation of multiple fields
- New field to capture the relevant review board
- A summary table with definitions for each project type
- Removal of redundant or historically unused response options
- Addition of new project type response options
- Links to additional resources within the forms
- Confirmation fields to reinforce understanding of REDCap best practices
- Additional fields to help determine whether a project meets acceptable use guidelines
These changes are not expected to significantly increase completion time and should ultimately reduce back-and-forth with the REDCap Support Team that users experienced with previous versions of the forms.
Changes to the Project Creation Form
Whenever a project is created in CU Anschutz REDCap, an inline pop-up survey appears immediately after clicking the "Create Project" button.
Prior to these updates, the Project Creation Form captured information about the project creator, project owner, intended use, and other details used to assess whether a project is eligible to be hosted on CU Anschutz REDCap.
If any responses indicated that a project might not meet authorized use criteria, users were presented with a message directing them to contact the REDCap Support Team through the Help Center ticketing system.
In the updated version, improvements have been made to better align with current institutional branding and to provide direct links to relevant resources, such as the REDCap Support ticket form.
The questions previously used to capture project type have been consolidated into a single drop-down field. This field appears below a list of project types along with descriptions of each.
Depending on the selected project type, additional questions may appear to screen for eligibility. For all project types that are determined to be eligible at this stage, you must confirm that their project meets permitted use criteria before proceeding with project creation.
Additionally, you are required to acknowledge REDCap best practice guidelines.
These updates are intended to ensure that projects created in CU Anschutz REDCap meet eligibility requirements and that users are provided with the latest documentation on best practices for REDCap usage.
Once the Project Creation Form is submitted, you will be directed to their newly created project.
Changes to the Move to Production Request Form
This request form has been updated to better screen for acceptable use, expand supported use cases, and reinforce REDCap best practices.
Previously, the form collected information such as:
- Project title
- Project ID (PID)
- IRB number (if applicable)
- Project type
- Key project staff
The updated form is now divided into multiple pages to improve workflow and readability.
The first page collects the project title, Project ID (PID), and whether the project has an IRB or IRB exemption number.
The next page displays a table of permissible project types, along with definitions for each. A link is provided to contact the REDCap Support Team if you are unsure which project type to select.
Below the table, you will:
- Select your project type
- Enter your IRB approval or exemption number (if applicable)
- Indicate which IRB issued the approval/exemption (if applicable)
The subsequent page prompts you to provide information about key staff members involved in the project.
The final page of the request form requires you to confirm your project meets all the necessary criteria to be hosted on CU Anschutz REDCap. You will not be able to proceed until all of these checkboxes have been selected.
If you cannot confidently select one or more of these checkboxes, please reach out by submitting a ticket to our team.
You will also be required to acknowledge REDCap best practice guidelines.
Finally, you will be prompted to decide whether you would like to keep or delete all project data. The "There are currently no records" response option has been removed, as this selection does not capture the preference on non-record data stored within the project.
Once all required fields are completed and you select "Submit", you will receive a confirmation message with information about next steps.
You will also receive a confirmation email with the subject line:
"[REDCap] - Move to Production Form Received - PID XXXX"
This email will include a PDF snapshot of your completed request form as an attachment.
